How You Can Become a Service Technician at WEINMANN Emergency
Have you always been enthusiastic about technology, handcraft, mechanics and electronics? In this case, a job as a service technician could be exactly the right thing for you. Mathias Düwel, Head of Operational Technical Customer Service, explains which prerequisites you need to bring along to this job and which tasks await you.
What does the service technician profession look like?
That depends on whether you are working as a service technician in the production center or in mobile service. If you are working in the traditional factory service, you are working in our Center for Production, Logistics and Service in Henstedt-Ulzberg. Here, you are responsible for servicing, technical safety checks in accordance with Section 11 MPBetreibV [German regulation concerning the operators of medical devices], maintenance and repair of ventilators, defibrillators, modules, suction devices and pressure reducers, among other things.
You also have the same tasks as employees in mobile service. However, you will be spending a lot of time in the car, as you are there on site for the customers. From emergency medical services and fire departments to aid organizations and hospitals, right up to customers from industry – you will repeatedly encounter different people. That is why you should enjoy working together with people and be outgoing. You arrange these customer appointments yourself. However, it is important that you are with the customers as quickly as possible in case of an emergency.
Which prerequisites should I bring along?
You should be able to show an appropriate qualification. Concretely, this means that you should be able to show experience as a medical technician or mechatronics technician. A university degree is not a prerequisite, electrical and manual skills are much more important. You should also have the ability to work with self-initiative and want to develop yourself further. As a service technician, you don’t have a 9-to-5 job, which means that you should bring along a high degree of flexibility and willingness to travel.
Can I start immediately as a service technician?
All service technicians need to complete a six-month training period with us. We have developed a detailed training plan for this, so that all service technicians are confident in dealing with customers. We support employees who want to work in mobile service during their training by covering the costs of journeys home and apartments, as well as helping with the search for an apartment. The training is held for all service technicians in the Production Center in Henstedt-Ulzburg.
