WEINMANN at the ERC Congress – Resuscitation 2024

The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) Congress took place in Athens from October 31 to November 2, 2024 – a highlight for everyone involved in resuscitation research in Europe. We were also there to showcase our innovative solutions for ventilation during resuscitation.
What is the ERC Congress?
The European Resuscitation Council (ERC) focuses on resuscitation and publishes new and revised CPR guidelines every five years. To develop these guidelines, the ERC's scientific working groups annually review the latest scientific research on resuscitation. The ERC Congress is one of the most important events in Europe in the field of resuscitation and emergency medicine. It brings together experts, doctors and rescuers to share the latest research, technology and best practice.
The congress offers numerous workshops, lectures and discussions on cardiovascular arrest and CPR. The aim is to provide important impetus for the revision of international guidelines on resuscitation.
Our insights from the ERC Congress

Measurement of ventilation parameters under CPR
Measuring ventilation parameters such as frequency and tidal volume could greatly improve the implementation of resuscitation guidelines. What is particularly exciting is that modern ventilators not only take the measurements, but also directly set and apply the optimal values. Will this development soon become an integral part of resuscitation guidelines?
Focus on hypoventilation
Whereas hyperventilation used to be seen as a major problem, hypoventilation is now coming to the fore. One thing is clear: without feedback on ventilation, it is difficult to maintain balance.
Are we underestimating PEEP?
Moderate PEEP during CPR may be more beneficial than previously thought - less atelectasis, more success. Do you think we have underestimated the potential of PEEP?
We believe that mechanical ventilation, especially with CCSV, can help us better comply with guidelines and put new knowledge into practice. Read more about CCSV here.
